Acorn Stairlifts to Open New Facility in the Northeast Ohio Region

Innovative company to bring 125 new positions to Lorain County

Acorn Stairlifts, America’s leading stairlift manufacturer, announced plans to operate a warehouse and distribution center in Lorain County at the Sheffield Center. In addition to warehouse and distribution operations, the company will expand their technical call center activities as well as back office and light assembly work at the facility. In total, Acorn Stairlifts plans to hire 125 employees to fill the positions. The Ohio Department of Development (ODOD) approved the project for tax credit assistance at its meeting earlier this month.

Specializing in the manufacture and installation of in-home stairlifts, Acorn Stairlifts plans to service U.S. and Canadian customers from this location.

“The selection of Lorain County is a strategic location decision to service our customers efficiently,” said Northeast Ohio native Shawn Herbst, US VP of Operations for Acorn Stairlifts. “Hailing from this region I also know the talented and dedicated workforce – with its Midwestern work ethic – will ensure our success here.”

The economic development team including ODOD, JobsOhio, Team NEO, Lorain County, and Sheffield Township collaborated to provide the resources needed to advance the project.

The Lorain County Commissioners noted, “We are proud to support this collaborative project between Lorain County, Sheffield Township and the State of Ohio. Our Community Development Department worked tirelessly to bring this company to Lorain County. We welcome Acorn Stairlifts to Lorain County and wish the company success in its endeavors.”

The Sheffield Township Board of Trustees also commented on the project saying, “We are honored to welcome Acorn to the Township. This is a great opportunity to bring 100 plus jobs to Lorain County.”

“Acorn Stairlift is a welcome and exciting addition to Lorain County,” noted Representative Joe Miller | District 56. “Next General Assembly, I look forward to continuing the relationship with local communities to improve infrastructure and site development to allow more companies to come to the county and tap into our talented workforce and bountiful resources.”

The company chose to expand in the Northeast Ohio Region due to the legacy of manufacturing talent and exceptional logistics, including a renowned infrastructure and proximity to key markets.

“We’re excited to welcome a leading company like Acorn Stairlifts to the Northeast Ohio Region,” added Team NEO CEO Bill Koehler. “This is a great example of how a company can be creative in repurposing an existing space to fit their needs. Along with JobsOhio, ODOD, and our local partners, we look forward to working with Acorn Stairlifts to support its tradition of quality and innovation.”
