New development of cold storage facility to bring 90 jobs to area
Berkshire Refrigerated Warehousing, LLC announced plans to build a 200,000-square-foot refrigerated warehousing facility in the Northeast Ohio Region, creating 90 new jobs. The Ohio Department of Development (ODOD) approved the project for tax credit assistance at its meeting today.
The new facility is the company’s first in Ohio. It will benefit businesses in the food service industry by providing a cold storage solution to ensure perishable products are maintained in a reliable environment. The Village of Sheffield site will service customers in Ohio, Kentucky, Michigan, New York, and Pennsylvania markets.
“We are excited that our project has become a reality,” said Berkshire Refrigerated Warehousing, LLC President Ted E. Grzywacz. “After months of research, we chose the Village of Sheffield because of its strategic location and the assistance of the Village, County, and State in helping us to ensure a successful venture. The location afforded us with all of the necessary components to provide quality and efficient service to our customers.”
Along with the Lorain County Commissioners, the Village of Sheffield, JobsOhio, and ODOD, Team NEO worked collaboratively with Berkshire Refrigerated Warehousing, LLC leadership to build the case for building the facility in the Northeast Ohio Region versus other states where they currently have operations.
“This will be an asset for the Village and would bring 90 needed jobs,” said Mayor John D. Hunter, “high paying and with benefits!” It will be a great fit for the area of North Abbe Road and for Sheffield Village.”
“On behalf of the Lorain County Board of Commissioners, we are excited to welcome Berkshire Refrigerated Warehousing, LLC to Lorain County,” said Lorain County Community Development Director Rob Duncan. “Their commitment affirms our position as a logistics hub not only for Northeast Ohio, but for all of North America; positioned within a day truck drive of the largest population centers of the United States and Canada.”
“The food industry is thriving in the Northeast Ohio Region, with 21 Fortune 1000 food companies located here,” added Team NEO Chief Executive Officer Bill Koehler. “Berkshire Refrigerated Warehousing, LLC will help ensure the industry continues to thrive, providing a competitive advantage for more food service businesses to locate here. Along with our local partners, ODOD and JobsOhio, we welcome Berkshire Refrigerated Warehouse’s expansion in the Northeast Ohio Region and are committed to working with company leaders to ensure their success and growth of their business in Ohio.”
