BWXT Announces $130+ Million Investment in Euclid and Barberton Facilities

CLEVELAND, Ohio, Oct. 29, 2018 –BWX Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: BWXT) announced today that its subsidiary BWXT Nuclear Operations Group, Inc. (BWXT NOG) plans to invest more than $130 million over four years in its Barberton and Euclid facilities in Northeast Ohio, creating more than 110 new jobs by 2022.

JobsOhio, Team NEO and the cities of Barberton and Euclid worked together to support the project through a combination of state Economic Development Grants, Job Creation Tax Credits and local Community Reinvestment Area Program tax abatements.

“BWXT’s decision to choose Northeast Ohio for this expansion brings 110 new jobs and cutting-edge facilities that will continue its long history of growth in Northeast Ohio,” said Dana Saucier, JobsOhio senior managing director for energy and chemicals. “We and our partners at Team NEO look forward to working with BWXT as it continues to provide world-class nuclear energy components and services in Barberton and Euclid.”

BWXT provides a complete range of nuclear components and services, including the manufacture of nuclear reactor components for U.S. Navy submarines and aircraft carriers and other nuclear and non-nuclear R&D component production.

“BWXT continues to grow and perform important work in Northeast Ohio,” BWXT NOG President Joel W. Duling said. “We’re pleased to make today’s announcement and to make this investment in the business, employees and these communities while also supporting our national defense.”

The Ohio sites comprise two of five BWXT NOG component manufacturing locations. Investments will be made to improve buildings and purchase new manufacturing equipment to support an anticipated increase in production.

“BWXT has a long and proud history in northeast Ohio dating back over 100 years, so we’re very pleased to be able to announce these projects,” said Jim Bittner, general manager of the Barberton facility.

“JobsOhio and our local leaders in both communities have been exceptionally supportive throughout the process of evaluating these projects,” said Chris Rhodes, general manager of the Euclid facilities. “We’re grateful for their leadership in supporting businesses to improve the local economy.”

Barberton employees manufacture heavy components for naval nuclear reactors. BWXT is planning to invest more than $80 million and hire more than 80 employees there. In Euclid, where the company is planning to invest more than $50 million and hire more than 30 new workers, employees manufacture electro-mechanical components such as control rod drive mechanisms for naval nuclear reactors.

“My administration is committed to maintaining the City of Barberton as a business-friendly community,” said Barberton Mayor William B. Judge. “BWXT has a long, successful history in Barberton and remains one of the city’s core business institutions. We are excited that Barberton was selected for this expansion project, which will produce a significant number of jobs within the community and continue our longstanding relationship with BWXT. We look forward to this future expansion and wish to thank BWXT General Manager Jim Bittner and his team for partnering with Barberton for mutual success and growth.”

Euclid Mayor Kirsten Holzheimer Gail added, “I am thrilled that BWXT will significantly invest and expand its current operations in the City of Euclid. As one of our larger employers, this investment will allow BWXT to expand their facilities, operations and employees while further enhancing Euclid’s thriving industrial corridor. We are grateful for BWXT’s continued growth and investment in Euclid and look forward to continued progress. We appreciate the partnership of Team NEO and JobsOhio in supporting the continued industrial growth that is so critical to our community and region.”
