As companies look to grow their businesses, many are leveraging the experience and expertise that resides within the region’s many esteemed institutions.
Two such examples are Siemens Healthcare and Parker Hannifin. Both companies have taken advantage of the region’s healthcare-related assets to help drive business results.
Siemens Healthcare Partners with Case Western Reserve University and University Hospitals Case Medical Center
Siemens Healthcare, a worldwide leader in healthcare innovation, is a prime example of a company taking advantage of the expertise found in Northeast Ohio. In fact, the company has a 30+ year relationship with Case Western Reserve University that it continues to leverage.
In 2016, researchers at Siemens Healthcare, Case Western Reserve and University Hospitals Case Medical Center announced a partnership to develop a quantitative imaging method known as Magnetic Resonance Fingerprinting (MRF). The innovative method has the potential to be a game changer in disease diagnostics.
As research continues, their quantitative approach aims to identify a range of diseases far earlier than is possible today. For Siemens, the focus of this collaboration is to improve reproducibility and possibly to extend the procedure to different MR scanners and field strengths.

Parker Hannifin and Cleveland Clinic Team Up to Drive Medical Advancements
Another great example is Parker Hannifin, a global leader in motion and control technologies. In 2014, Parker Hannifin and Cleveland Clinic Innovations joined forces to see how they could use their collective expertise to drive medical innovation. Since that time, they have set out to develop an array of advancements. Their partnership is a prime example of the types of mutually beneficial relationships made possible in the Medical Capital.
While Parker focuses on everything from hydraulics to automation, the company is working to make a name for itself in the area of medical products. As such, its partnership with Cleveland Clinic Innovations has enabled Parker to apply its technological expertise to meet the needs of the medical community.
As the duo works on a variety of innovations, it has already made great progress. Together, the team has created a Cardioscope, a catheter with a miniature camera embedded on the end that enables surgeons to more closely watch as it is inserted through the femoral artery into the heart. The team has also created an optically clear endoscopic sheath, a product designed to minimize infection risks during surgery.
While these are just a few examples of the many ideas being brought to life thanks to this unique partnership, they represent the innovations being developed every day in the Medical Capital.
