Northeast Ohio Medical University Executive brings unique health care insights to organization’s board
Cleveland, Ohio – August 3, 2017— The Board of Directors of Team NEO appointed Jay A. Gershen, D.D.S., Ph.D., president of Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED), to the organization’s board. Dr. Gershen is the president of NEOMED and joins a group of regional business leaders dedicated to advancing Northeast Ohio’s economy.
“Jay possesses unique expertise in the health care industry, one of our largest growing sectors in Northeast Ohio,” said Team NEO CEO William Koehler. “Further, his understanding and initiatives in workforce issues in the health care field will help make progress for our region in this area.”

Jay Alan Gershen, D.D.S., Ph.D. became the sixth president of NEOMED in January 2010.
Dr. Gershen initiated an ‘education for service’ program in Northeast Ohio, an innovative health workforce development program that reduces student indebtedness, provides health care to underserved rural and urban communities, diversifies the healthcare workforce and contributes to economic growth. Also, he has provided leadership to expand NEOMED’s research activities through investments in state-of-the-art laboratory facilities, the recruitment of renowned scientists, and commercialization activities. In addition, he implemented a $166 million campus expansion plan that includes a research tower, a residential “village,” and NEOMED’s Education and Wellness Center which includes the first STEM high school on a medical university campus in the nation.
