2024 National Small Business Day

JobsOhio Grants Support Small Businesses such as Philomena Bakery LLC

Team NEO is proud to support small businesses in Northeast Ohio with the JobsOhio Small Business Grant. In 2023, Northeast Ohio led the state by providing 52 companies small business grants, representing 223 new jobs and more than $12.2 million in annual new payroll. This trend continues in 2024 including support with companies like Philomena Bake Shop.

This leading gluten-free and vegan baking company in the greater Cleveland area focuses on supplying wholesale clients, including local coffee, tea, and quick service food shops, with custom-baked goods. The woman-owned company was looking to expand its footprint to accommodate demand for their operations. A $50,000 JobsOhio Small Business Development Grant was awarded to the company to support increased production, including the addition of three new hires and the retention of two jobs.

“Investing in small businesses and the jobs they create contribute to Team NEO and its partners’ efforts to build a vibrant economy that is talented, resilient, and innovative, offering equitable opportunities for all,” noted Team NEO Chief Executive Officer Bill Koehler. “Along with JobsOhio we look forward to continued support of small businesses throughout the Northeast Ohio Region.”

Spotlight: JobsOhio Small Business Development Grant

The JobsOhio Small Business Development Grant funds eligible projects happening in designated distressed communities in Ohio and/or led by businesses owned by underrepresented populations (at least 51% minority-owned, woman-owned, veteran-owned or owned by an individual with a disability). Grant decisions are based on a number of factors, including but not limited to company location, company ownership, jobs created and/or retained, and project fixed-asset investment. All or most qualified projects require a company to commit to new job and payroll growth. Small to medium-sized companies (annual revenues up to $25million) engaged in JobsOhio’s targeted industries and business functions may apply, provided they meet qualifying criteria.
